The IndiaAI Mission is set to expand its graphics processing unit (GPU) resources by adding nearly 3,850 GPUs through the third round.

An ET report, citing IndiaAI Mission’s chief executive Abhishek Singh, said, “IndiaAI has got 1,050 Google Trillium tensor processing units (TPUs).”

Google’s sixth-generation TPUs, called Trillium, are custom chips tailored to boost AI and ML workloads, from training to inference of large-scale models. These specialised chips are available through Google Cloud.

“Additional GPUs provided by already empanelled bidders include 1,300 Nvidia H100 GPUs by Locuz, 50 Google Trillium TPUs by Ishan Infotech, and 2500 GPUs by Sify (1000 Google Trillium TPUs, 800 Nvidia H200 GPUs and 700 Nvidia L4 GPUs). Vensysco has lowered prices but not provided any additional GPUs,” Singh was quoted as saying in the report.

Inc42 has reached out to Singh for comments on the development. The story will be updated based on his response.

The report further said that the financial bid evaluation for the third round has been completed, with slight revisions in the L1 (lowest bidder) prices. The empanelled bidders from the first and second rounds of the GPU tender are expected to align with these new rates.

These additional 3,850 GPUs from the third round are slated to join the current pool of 34,333 GPUs.

The Roadmap To India’s AI Future

As of June this year, India has installed more than 17,300 GPUs under the IndiaAI Mission, with providers, including Hiranandani Group’s Yotta Data Services, E2E Networks and NxtGen Cloud Technologies, moving ahead, while Jio Platforms and CtrlS Datacenters are yet to begin deployment.

Over two months back, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced at the CII Business Summit 2025 that the government would procure an additional 14,000 GPUs under the IndiaAI mission.

Highlighting the surge in computing power, the minister then said the country has crossed the 34,000-GPU mark, after adding 15,916 GPUs to the existing 18,417 empanelled GPUs, though these fresh units are yet to be operational.

The MeitY shortlisted seven companies – Sify Digital Services, Netmagic IT Services, Vensysco Technologies, Cyfuture India, Yotta Data Services, Locuz Enterprise Solutions and Ishan Infotech, in the second round.

In the third round, four out of six applicant companies, namely Locuz Enterprise Solutions, Ishan Infotech, Vensysco Technologies and Sify Digital Services, have cleared the technical round. However, Teleglobal International and Rackbank Datacenters did not make it through the round.

Decoding IndiaAI Mission

The Union Cabinet approved the IndiaAI Mission in March 2024, with an outlay of INR 10,372 Cr spanning five years.

Led by Singh, IndiaAI Mission aims to build an AI ecosystem, offering supercomputing capabilities comprising over 10K GPUs to various stakeholders, including startups, academic institutions, government agencies and research institutes.

In the first bidding round, the electronics ministry invited bids from cloud services providers and data centre operators to supply and manage AI computing infrastructure, including GPUs, where these bidders would either offer their own data centres or partner with global cloud providers to deliver GPUs under the IndiaAI Mission.

In the light of this, AI market size in India is expected to surpass $17 Bn by 2030, based on recent Inc42 data.
