The airport will also have a low-cost carrier terminal capable of handling two million passengers per annum in the first phase

In recent years, the city of Mumbai in India has experienced a tremendous growth in both population and economic activity.Metropolitan areas, such as Mumbai, attract people due to their significant investments and employment opportunities.

However, this rapid urbanization has also put a strain on the existing infrastructure of the city, especially when it comes to transportation and connectivity. The existing airport in Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, is already one of the busiest airports in India and is struggling to handle the growing passenger demand. In light of this situation, the need for a new airport in Mumbai has become evident.

The proposed Navi Mumbai Airport aims to address the pressing issues faced by the existing airport and cater to the ever-increasing demand for air travel. The city of Mumbai, with its population of 23.598 million people, is a bustling metropolis and one of the major financial hubs.

The current Mumbai airport, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, is overburdened and unable to handle the increasing number of passengers. Moreover, the city's booming economic activities and manufacturing industries require an efficient transportation system to facilitate trade and commerce. The Navi Mumbai Airport is seen as a strategic solution to alleviate the burden on the existing airport and provide better connectivity to the city.

In addition to addressing the capacity constraints of the existing airport, the Navi Mumbai Airport also aims to enhance the overall passenger experience.
