Social gaming platform Matiks has raised $10 Mn (₹95.1 Cr) in its Pre-Series A funding round led by General Catalyst.
The round also saw participation from upGrad founder Ronnie Screwvala as well as existing backers such as Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures.
In a statement, the startup said that it plans to utilise the fresh capital to expand its global footprint and invest in new games and social experiences. The fresh funding will also be used to deepen investments in engineering, AI, product, design and growth.
A chunk of the capital will also be utilised to build an AI-powered engine, which will enable users to build and publish their own social games without writing code. Going forward, it has also set its eyes on scaling creator partnerships, global distribution and player community.
“… We started Matiks with a simple belief: using your brain can be just as fun and addictive as any other form of entertainment. Our ambition is to make mind sports as culturally relevant as physical sports and esports – giving mental athletes, puzzlers, and competitive players the visibility, communities, and recognition they deserve…,” said Matiks cofounder and CEO Sudhanshu Bhatia.
Founded in 2024 by Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur, Matiks is an esports platform that allows users to play social games spanning mathematics, memory, logic and puzzles. It also allows users to compete with each other.
The startup claims that more than 22 Lakh players had played 4.8 Cr games on its platform as of September 2026. Matiks also claimed that its daily active users currently hover around 3 Lakh, with early engagement also emerging from international markets such as Japan, the US and South Korea.
The startup last raised $3.14 Mn in its pre-Series A round led by Tanglin Ventures in August last year.
Going forward, the startup plans to initially prioritise expansion in the US before entering more tier I markets. Its future roadmap also includes building its AI-powered game creation engine, which the startup believes will foster adoption and create new experiences.
The fundraise comes as India’s gaming market is expanding beyond the usual battle royale and casual games. Buoyed by 51 Cr gamers, the ban on real-money games last year, the rise of AI and regulatory push for social games, the homegrown gaming arena is seeing renewed traction and interest from investors.
Earlier this month, mobile gaming studio Spill Games raised $10.5 Mn in its Series A round led by Elevation Capital. In April this year, another gaming studio LightFury Games also bagged $11 Mn in its pre-Series A funding round from Blume Ventures and others.
In August, cricketer Rohit Sharma also joined LightFury Games as an investor, alongside MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, among others.
At the heart of all this is the Indian gaming market, which is projected to become a $9.9 Bn opportunity by 2031.
