Snap CBO Ajit Mohan To Step Down After Four-Year Stint

Former Meta India head and Hotstar CEO Ajit Mohan is stepping down as the CBO of Snapchat parent Snap after a four-year stint.

Snap said in a regulatory filing that Mohan’s departure is expected to take effect on December 31, 2026.

Announcing the decision in a LinkedIn post, Mohan said he was leaving for personal reasons and plans to spend more time with his family in Singapore. For the past two years, he had been commuting between New York, Los Angeles and Singapore, along with occasional visits to London, Dubai and Bengaluru.

Snap, in the filing, said Mohan was leaving to pursue other opportunities and his departure was not related to any disagreement over the company’s strategy, management, operations or financial practices.

The company has elevated Ronan Harris, who has led its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) business since 2022, to the newly created role of chief commercial officer. He will oversee Snap’s global advertising sales and go-to-market operations and report directly to cofounder and CEO Evan Spiegel.

Mohan joined Snap as president of Asia Pacific in January 2023 and was elevated to CBO in February 2025. In the role, he was responsible for growing Snap’s advertising business globally and overseeing its revenue products and business operations.

Before joining Snap, Mohan served as Meta India’s VP and MD between 2019 and 2022. He was also the founding CEO of Hotstar and previously held leadership roles at Star India, McKinsey and Arthur D Little.

Mohan’s exit comes as Snap looks to translate its large user base in India into advertising revenue. The company claims to have more than 250 Mn users in the country, making India one of its largest markets.

Snap recently said its advertiser base in India grew 10X over the past two years, while the number of advertisers spending consistently on the platform increased 3X. The company has also been expanding its advertiser mix beyond new-age, online-first companies to include traditional and offline brands.

Snap has identified India’s large Gen Z population and Snapchat’s augmented reality-led offerings as key pillars of its strategy in the country. It is looking to tap the expanding digital advertising market through visual commerce and brand-led AR experiences.

The push comes as Snap’s advertising business gains momentum. The company reported a 19% YoY increase in revenue to $1.6 Bn in the second quarter of 2026, while its monthly active user base reached 971 Mn.
