Google has rolled out a suite of AI-powered learning features across Search and Gemini, including tools to help students prepare for competitive examinations such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The features are part of a broader global education rollout, with Google highlighting support for Indian competitive examinations alongside tests such as the SAT, ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT.
As part of the rollout, Google Search will allow students to take practice quizzes across subjects and standardised examinations, generate interactive visualisations to understand complex concepts, and receive step-by-step assistance through Google Lens.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the examination preparation features in a post on X, saying Search could now help users prepare for the SAT, ACT, AP, ENEM, GRE, JEE, LSAT, MCAT, and NEET.
The tech major is introducing the features as part of its “Back to School 2026” initiative, which includes new learning tools across Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Google Classroom.
Google’s rollout comes as major AI companies sharpen their focus on education, with OpenAI introducing Study Mode and pursuing partnerships with schools, universities, and edtech companies in India.
Over the longer term, the integration of such features into widely used Google products could influence how students use standalone edtech platforms for basic revision, practice tests, and personalised study assistance.
Gemini Gets Dedicated Student Hub
Google has also introduced a dedicated Student Hub within Gemini, bringing its learning and academic organisation tools together in one place.
Students can use the hub to organise academic material, create flashcards, take practice quizzes, and set up study notebooks.
After users upload materials such as lecture notes and course syllabi, Gemini’s study notebooks can conduct diagnostic quizzes to identify their strengths and knowledge gaps. The feature then creates personalised, bite-sized lessons and quizzes based on their learning goals.
Google plans to add graphs and images to these lessons over the coming weeks. With a student’s permission, Gemini will also be able to identify examination and assignment deadlines from a syllabus and add them to Google Calendar.
The company is also integrating Deep Research with Gemini Live. Students will be able to request research reports, allow Gemini to prepare them in the background, and subsequently discuss the findings through voice conversations.
Alongside the new learning tools, Google is offering eligible college students outside the US, including in India, free access to its Google AI Plus plan for one year. The plan includes access to Gemini Omni, two times higher Gemini usage limits compared to non-AI subscribers, and 400 GB of storage.
Google had previously offered eligible Indian college students a free one-year Google AI Pro subscription in 2025. The latest promotion offers its lower-priced AI Plus plan and opens a fresh redemption window until December 31, 2026.
The offer is available to eligible students across more than 140 markets where Google AI Plus operates, barring the US and a few other countries.
Google is also introducing more controls for educators. New Google Classroom features will allow teachers to tailor students’ AI experiences to their curricula and track their progress in real time. A connected Classroom app within Gemini can also help educators draft lesson plans.
