Zomato Piloting AI-Powered Voice Bot For Food Delivery

Askwiki Exclusive

Eternal’s food delivery arm Zomato is piloting an AI-powered voice bot that allows users to order food using voice commands.

Inc42 was able to verify the presence of such a voice bot for Zomato in certain pockets of Bengaluru. The service is also only available for a select number of users.

The feature lets customers discuss what they might be interested in eating, and then offers personalised recommendations.

“Conversation mode. Ordering made easy with a voice bot that understands you,” read the product description for the voice AI offering.

The pilot comes as Zomato continues to experiment heavily with GenAI. It first launched its AI chatbot in 2023 to suggest food dishes and restaurants to customers. Subsequently last year, Zomato also rolled out its AI-native, no-code customer support platform ‘Nugget’ for external users. Nugget offers AI agents to handle queries and streamline support.

Earlier this year in April, the food delivery giant partnered with Google to roll out restaurant reservations on Google’s AI Mode.

Last week, Zomato, in a blog post, said that its internal logistics team already runs a voice bot that guides delivery partners through the order process. It also added that its internal AI tool, Gavel, has managed to bring evaluation costs for checking a voice bot call down by 98% to ₹10 as against ₹450 when evaluated in front of a human agent.

The latest development comes as Zomato continues to roll out a slew of new features. Last month, it launched “Healthy Subscriptions”, which enables users to pre-plan healthy meals from partner restaurants. Over the past few quarters, it has also lowered the free-delivery threshold for Gold users to ₹99 from ₹199 and expanded affordable meal offerings, including sub-₹250 options.

Zomato is leveraging AI and debuting new services as it looks to consolidate its presence in the Indian foodtech ecosystem, which is reportedly projected to become a $46 Bn opportunity by 2034.

Meanwhile, on the financial side, Zomato parent Eternal reported a 4.5X jump in its net profit to ₹174 Cr in Q4 FY26 as against ₹39 Cr in the year-ago period. Operating revenue surged 196% YoY and 6% QoQ to ₹17,292 Cr during the quarter.

During the quarter, Zomato reported a 33% YoY increase in operating revenue to ₹2,737 Cr while adjusted EBITDA rose 24% YoY to ₹532 Cr.

Shares of Eternal closed yesterday’s trading session 0.28% higher at ₹285.95 on the BSE.
