Pet care marketplace Supertails suffered significant material losses after a fire at one of its storage facilities in Bengaluru destroyed all its inventory stored at the leased warehouse.
In a blog post, Supertails said that the fire started at a perfume warehouse located in the same facility as its own warehouse. As the fire spread, it engulfed three warehouses, including the one owned by Supertails.
The startup said that all its employees working at the warehouse were completely safe.
The incident took place on February 22 in the middle of Supertails’ flagship WTF Sale. Due to the uncertainty, the startup decided to cancel the sale a day after it recorded “the highest ever revenue in its five-year journey”.
The Bengaluru-based startup said it has already secured another primary warehouse in the city and turned it fully operational and ready to fulfill orders. It added that less than 1% orders placed during the sale were cancelled due to the incident, and new dates for a fresh sale will be announced soon.
The incident took place weeks after Supertails secured $30 Mn in its Series C round that saw investors like Titan Capital and Nippon India joining its cap table. The startup has raised over $57 Mn to date from investors like RPSG Capital Ventures, Fireside Ventures, Saama Capital, DSG Consumer Partners and Sauce.vc.
Founded in 2021 by former Licious executives Varun Sadana, Aman Tekriwal, and Vineet Khanna, Supertails is one of the biggest new-age players in the booming pet care industry, selling pet food, toys and other utilities and supplies. It also provides pet training services, online veterinary consultations, clinics and at-home services.
Supertails is looking to expand its pet clinic network to 15 in Bengaluru, and was in talks to acquire multispeciality veterinary clinic Blue 7 Vets last year. However, the deal failed to materialise, Khanna told Inc42 earlier, adding that the startup will continue seeking inorganic opportunities for growth.
For now, it is focusing on expanding its dark store network to achieve nearly 80% quick delivery coverage across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi NCR by March 2026. It entered the quick commerce space last month by offering deliveries of pet supplies, medicines, consultations and at-home grooming services in under 30 minutes in select pin codes.
