Priya Mohan, partner at VC firm General Catalyst, has stepped down from her role. In a LinkedIn post, Mohan said she intends to take a break.
“… After 22 years of an amazing and rewarding professional journey, I have decided to take a break – I do not know “what next” (yet), but despite the uncertainty, I am feeling a remarkable sense of exhilaration…” Mohan’s post read.
Mohan joined General Catalyst last year in June, when the VC firm announced its merger with Venture Highway. Mohan served as the managing director at Venture Highway.
Founded in 2015 by Sameer Sood and Neeraj Arora, Venture Highway backed startups like Meesho, Moglix, Applied Intuition, BetterPlace, Chalo, among others.
Mohan, a CA and a management graduate from the Indian School of Business, worked as equity analyst and in investment banking in the initial years of her career. Post that, she cofounded edtech startup ‘Vidyartha’, which offered assessment solutions. It helped students go beyond their report cards by assessing them on their interests, personality traits, aptitudes and skills. The Bengaluru-based edtech startup was acquired by BYJU’S in 2017.
Following this, Mohan joined Venture Highway. Mohan’s exit from the VC firm comes more than a year after Anand Chandrasekaran stepped down from his position as partner at General Catalyst.
General Catalyst has backed Indian startups like Zepto, Pronto, PB Health, among others. Last year, the VC firm raised its $8 Bn Fund XII to back startups operating in the field of AI, defence and intelligence, climate and energy, industrials, healthcare and fintech.
The development also comes at a time when the VC ecosystem is seeing a large number of leadership exits. In June, Ashish Dave, the CEO of Mirae Asset Venture Investments, stepped down from his role after a seven year stint. Two managing directors at Peak XV Partners – Shailesh Lakhani and Abheek Anand – also announced their exit from the VC firm in February this year.
Shraeyansh Thakur, another partner at Peak XV announced his exit in March this year.
