Ratan Tata's list of funded startups in 2nd half of 2015

Since stepping down from day-to-day responsibilities at the Tata Group, Ratan Tata in his personal capacity has been funding new startups. Here is a list of startups funded by Ratan Tata in the 2nd Half of 2015.

Lybrate in July 2015
Ratan Tata invested a total $10.2 million along with Tiger Global Management and Nexus Venture Partners. Lybrate allows patients to anonymously communicate with doctors and medical professionals.

Ampere in July 2015
Ratan Tata made his first automobile startup investment in this Coimbatore based business along with Forum Synergies. Though the amount has not been revealed, yet the startup plans to use this to boost operations and hire more talent.


OLA Cabs in July 2015
Ratan Tata also invested an undisclosed amount in the online taxi portal. The nature or kind of investment too remained a hush hush except that this one is upon Tata’s personal capacities. Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder, Ola said, It is our honor to have Mr. Ratan Tata on board as an investor

Infinite Analytics in August 2015
The big data analytics startup got a Ratan Tata financial support along with existing investors like Nikhil Vora, founder of Sixth Sense Ventures. The company plans to use the funding for recruitment, boost present verticals and explore new regions for the business.

HolaChef in September 2015
Counted as Tata’s 14th investment, was an undisclosed amount in this food tech startup. Later, in an interview Tata told, “What I look at while investing in startups is the quality and intelligence of the entrepreneurs.

Abra in October 2015
The first investment of Tata in the global digital platform, this was a $14million fund raise along American Express. Abra starts its journey from U.S. and Philippines as a multi-country teller network for money transfer through mobile apps.

Crayon Data in November 2015
Ratan Tata also invested is a Singapore based startup Crayon Data, though the amount was not made public. The big data company founder Srikant Sastri said in a statement, "We are excited and honoured. To meet Ratan Tata and have our vision validated by him is an accolade in itself.”

UrbanClap in December 2015
The was the last startup funding by Tata in 2015, this one also had SAIF Partners and Accel Partners participating during the investment session. The startup aims to “create lakhs of new jobs for service professionals, thereby creating a new breed of micro-entrepreneurs.
